Why do you wear makeup?

July 17, 2016

This is something I've wanted to post for quite a while but sometimes with posts like these the words aren't always easy!
This is a question that always pops up around beauty bloggers and the makeup loving world.

A while ago a blogger who I've always been loved and been inspired by My Pale Skin posted an inspirational and beautiful video 'You Look Disgusting'.

This kind of kickstarted an internal debate with myself about my thoughts about my own skin, my face, my looks and why I wear makeup. I've always found Em so beautiful so to see a video of her struggling with comments about her looks was hard-hitting, especially comments that makeup was 'false advertising' (I won't go into any of the other vile things that were said). It kind of hit home the whole 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' nature of wearing makeup.

There's no right or wrong reason to wear make-up as long as it's something you do for you. If it gives you more confidence knowing that you have some bad-ass cheekbones thanks to that new contour kit? Brilliant, wear it with pride.
What about if you enjoy blending eyeshadows and seeing what you can create? Amazing, you blend to your hearts content.

What I'm trying to say is, some people will always have something to say about your looks, your make-up habits so why not just go ahead and make yourself happy? You do you, no matter how much makeup that involves.
Personally, I feel a lot more confident if I have make-up on and I enjoy the experience of buying new make-up, getting better at applying it technique-wise and the community that comes from it through beauty blogging etc.

So lovely readers, why do you wear make-up?
