Winter Essentials

December 19, 2014

Winter isn't the kindest season to our skin. Cold weather and wind dries everything out and the festive season means a packed diary of socialising and not enough time to take care of ourselves. So I thought I'd do a little post on some of my lifesavers for this winter.

Coconut Oil

In winter with all the cold and wind (especially up North) a normal moisturiser sometimes isn't enough for my skin and the cold wind plays absolutely havoc with long curly hair. Coconut oil is then my absolute life saver. It's an amazingly versatile product which works really well as a quick treatment for dry cracked skin or lips on the go as well as using as an intensive overnight moisturiser. This is also an amazing hair mask treatment to be used in place of a conditioner that leaves hair tangle-free and amazingly soft after the wind has had at it.
I carry a pot around through the day for my hands and lips which get irritated and cracked as well as keeping a pot next to my bed to use as an intensive moisturiser for pretty much anything.

MUR Vivid Baked Highlighter - Golden Lights

This seems like an odd choice I know, But when you're running off to see people for some Christmas or New Year event and you've been at work/uni/school all day this is a great little highlighter to add some shimmer to your look without bringing your whole makeup bag.
It's great for using as a highlighter adding shimmer to your face or as an eyeshadow to polish off a simple day to day look.

Body Shop Hemp Lip Conditioner

I've already done a full review on this however it is honestly a complete live saver for those with problems with dry lips. It moisturises lips but also forms a barrier which is a god send for cold windy or even snowy days as it stops lips from cracking.

Organic Surge First Class Mask

After the New Year I'm hoping to do a whole series on natural skincare/beauty products so this is obviously a favourite of mine which I'm hoping to review in full later. This mask is made of natural ingredients and is my go to product if my skin needs a post party pick me up. It's a quick mask which needs only 10 minutes to work so is ideal for popping on in a morning shower to clear out left over makeup and freshen up skin.

Body Shop Japanese Cherry Blossom Fragrance - Handbag size

I really hate spending all night wishing you could pop on some more perfume. I received the Cherry Blossom fragrance gift set from my boyfriend and it comes with both a full size and a little mini size which is perfect for popping in a clutch or handbag for quick top ups while on nights out.

Kleenex Shine Absorbing Sheets

I think we've all experienced the 'ew' moment where you nip to the ladies room and see a face melting away with shine. Adding more powder often leads to caking and even more shine. These shine absorbing sheets are kept in a thin travel pouch which fit well into purses and bags. Admittedly they are quite small and in dire situations 2 might be needed. But they restore your face to all it's matte glory.

My Personal Planner*

The festive season results in uni deadlines for students as well as lots and lots of events and appointments. I'm absolutely hopeless at remembering these unless I write it down and personal planner came to my rescue. I absolutely love the fact that you can tweak your diary to make it everything you can possibly want to organise yourself.
