Overrated and Underrated- Skincare

June 25, 2014

I promised I would make this a series so here's the next installment. This time there was only 3 in each because skin care is narrower area and I didn't want to slag off things I hadn't tested. It got a bit ranty in some areas sorry!

1. Garnier Under Eye Roll On

I tried this and thought it was average when it first came out. I didn't find it made me look more awake at all and it felt really sticky. I would rather stick to concealer and cucumber slices to get rid of dark under eyes. Garnier have gone a bit crazy with this product and have now released loads of different versions of this product (tinted, transparent, caffeine, bb cream) and I still don't see all that much point in them personally.

2. Stretch mark creams

The best way to get rid of stretch marks is normal moisturiser and time. Stretch marks are on the inner layer of your skin so they basically need time to fade. Creams and lotions may help a bit, but there's little medical evidence to show they work sadly. Save your money by buying a normal cheap body moisturiser and being patient.

3. Detoxing Skin Products

Want a shocking piece of news? Your body is designed to detox ITSELF, with these magical ingredients called kidneys and livers. If you want to 'detox' you skin just drink more water and eat more fruit and veg. It's not as fancy as these skin detoxers but it's a lot cheaper and works a lot better.

1. Water

Kind of linked to my detoxing cream rant above. The best way to keep skin hydrated and pretty is getting those 2 litres a day although it sounds like a massive drag and I feel like a nagging mother in this post, but water and a gentle moisturiser will fix all your skin hydration problems.

2. Tea Tree Oil

This is included in most spot blasting products but one of the most effective ways to dry out and get rid of spots, is to just buy a teeny bottle of straight tea tree oil and when you see a spot just dab a small amount on. Make sure you only apply to an actual spot though or the rest of your skin won't like you much. Holland and Barrett sell a 10ml bottle for £4

3. Boots Cucumber Skincare range

This has made a recurring appearance in my skin care routine since my mum first brought me the cleanser when I first started getting oily skin. The whole range is so cheap (£1.50 for each product) and nearly always on a 3 for 2 deal. I love their cleansers and their wipes. I also recommend their Vitamin E range.

Let me know what you think in the comments, do you have any overrated or underrated skincare products that are different from mine?

    1. It's definitely a skin saviour, mine's been so much clearer now I drink more :) xx

  2. Wow! Everyone seems to love the garnier roll-on. I guess I won't buy it after this...

    1. Yeah I think it may just be me who doesn't but I just didn't feel like it did much after all the hype :( xx

  3. I use both the vitamin e and cucumber boots range for my eyes, both works very well! :) And interesting comment on the body detoxing itself, I forget about that sometimes, though I sometimes use detoxing face masks :) and yes, water, fruit and veg, all good stuff! :) Water certainly makes your skin clearer!

    1. I definitely think your skin tends to take care of itself mostly if you just keep healthy :) I think detoxing as in cleaning out pores is obviously necessary, but no amount of skin product will take any toxins out your skin sadly! xx

  4. I love tea tree oil. I sometimes use it to clean things too as it's a natural disinfectant. :-)

    1. I didn't know it was a natural disinfectant, thank you for that! It explains why it cleans up spots so well though :) xx
